With the destruction of the Mass Relays and the need for faster and more efficient FTL ships became critical reconnecting the Earth's colonies and the other races of citadel space. While nowhere near the technological level of the Mass Relays Earth's new generation of ships achieved speeds that the galaxy hadn't seen outside of the Reapers since the beginning of the cycles, since the creation of the Mass Relays. The new generation of ships based on SSV Normandy mkII designs and augmented by reaper technology began a new race for the galaxy's survival.
